Over the years, rapid housing development caused an exponential growth in water meter connections. This phenomenon created challenges to water utility companies in reading the housing unit water meters due to several reasons such as lack of personnel, high cost of maintaining staff, time consumption and many other related problems. It is on this pretext that Delta Perdana chose to offer consumers the Automated Meter Reading System services also referred to as AMR in short. Delta Perdana offers both domestic and commercial AMR services.
The domestic service allows water utility companies to retrieve data automatically without having the meter reader access every housing or commercial building. This technology automates meter reading. Data is transmitted through radio frequency that is used as a carrier which is then transmitted to handheld devices or fixed network system. Data retrieved is centrally stored for automated billing that produces individualized billings to be mailed to the end user or consumer.
The data extracted can be extrapolated and tabulated to analyze customer usage trends and other statistical information.
Meanwhile, commercial AMR uses wireless access via GSM with GSM SIM cards installed in the electromagnetic meters. GSM SIM card will send out an encoded SMS to a specified GSM number. This data is extracted and saved by the AMR software. The data extracted can be extrapolated and tabulated to analyze customer usage trends and other statistical information.
The electromagnetic meters used in commercial AMR are a management solution for revenue generation, district metering, water distribution, customer billings, leakage control and treatment works.
Both the domestic and commercial services help address the issues of difficulty in reading water meters. The AMR provides solutions which are less time consuming and cost-effective to water utility companies.
